About Village Mama

The name Village Mama is the perfect name for my philosophy as a birth worker. We used to have a literal village that would help us and teach us how to become new parents and a new family. We don’t really have that anymore. We often live far away from family and lead busy lives and it can isolate us from the support we need when we are pregnant and postpartum. That’s why I believe being a postpartum doula and a childbirth educator is incredibly important. I get the honor of being a part of people’s villages and I get to help them navigate new-parenthood and all that it entails.

It is important to me to provide non-judgmental support to all of the clients I work with. Different things work for different families, and I am there to provide support that works for you. The education I provide both in classes and as a doula is evidence-based. I strive to continue my education and stay up-to-date with new standards and studies.

About Stephanie

Hello, I am Stephanie and I am Village Mama. I live with my husband, two young children, and in-laws in Seattle. We have a loud, chaotic, and loving household that I love a lot. I was trained as a postpartum doula and childbirth educator in 2018 after I had my second baby. I struggled with Postpartum Anxiety and Depression after I had my first baby and was inspired to support other people who were experiencing similar things. I believe that things can be used for good, and I am thankful that my experience with postpartum mood disorders has helped me to be a better support person for others.

You will probably find me listening to a podcast and sometimes an audio book. I have nerdy-pop-culture tendencies. I am a board game player, a novice hiker, and have forgotten my other hobbies because I have a two and three-year-old.
